Resting Place is vivid and colorful pastel landscape created from an imaginary view of a field of dandelions. This artwork was in process on my studio wall when my uncle past away. My uncle held a special place in my heart. When I was a teenager I spent a couple of years working for him at his little pizza place in south St. Louis. With emotional support from him and his friends - a cast of diverse, good willed and fun loving characters; I made it through high school understanding that to be weird and different was something to appreciate and must be allowed to flourish. That feeling of acceptance helped me to look past other’s judgements and focus on living life as an artist. In homage to my uncle, this artwork represents the final resting place of grief. A gentle wind will cast off the dandelion seeds in route to a new adventure. |
